The cost of registering PCT patent in Vietnam. When an invention wants to be protected in different countries, instead of registering for invention to the patent offices of each country, the applicant can submit the patent application through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (“PCT”). Provided that the application must be filed within 12 months from the date of the first invention application filed in a member country of the Paris Convention and must designate to particular states on an application written in English with a payable fee.
When filing a PCT patent application in Vietnam, the applicant will have to pay the following fees:

Fees must be paid in Swiss francs (CHF):
- Fee for transmitting the document to Intellectual Property Office of Viet Nam: 300,000 VND
- Fee for International application: CHF 1,330
- Fee per sheet of the international application in excess of 30 sheets: CHF 15
- Fee for international search made by International Searching Authority (ISA): CHF 1,939
The application filling fee will be reduced if the international application is submitted by means of:
- Electronic filing for the request in character coded format: CHF 200
- Electronic filing for the request not being in character coded format: CHF 100
- Electronic filing for the request, description, claims and abstract in character coded format: CHF 300
Reduced fees of registering PCT patent in Vietnam
The (2) and (3) fee is reduced by 90% if some conditions apply
1. an applicant who is a natural person and who is a national of and resides in a State that is listed as being a State whose per capita gross domestic product is below US$ 25,000 (according to the most recent 10-year average per capita gross domestic product figures at constant 2005 US$ values published by the United Nations), and whose nationals and residents who are natural persons have filed less than 10 international applications per year (per million population) or less than 50 international applications per year (in absolute numbers) according to the most recent five-year average yearly filing figures published by the International Bureau; or
2. an applicant, whether a natural person or not, who is a national of and resides in a State that is listed as being classified by the United Nations as a least developed country;
These requirements will be apply as long as no other owners of the international application at the time of filing satisfy the criteria in (a) or (b). In case if there are several applicants, each must satisfy the criteria set out in either sub-item (a) or (b).
The applicant will be charged supplementary search fee and supplementary search handling fee on the request of such procedure.

The above fee must be paid within one month from the receiving of search request or might be deemed as not having been submitted.
